I presumed that you have some experience in Trading.
Since you are looking along the lines of Trading futures or forex, you can consider these criteria.
1. Initial trading deposit required by a broker providing the type of market you are interested in. E.g. some brokers require initial deposit of $5000 for EUR, GB, mini Dow Jones and Gold futures markets. most Forex brokers allow between $250 to $500 for mini account.
2. What is your trading personality? Do you like to have time to make your trades? are you very confident in taking your trades without hesitation. The Hang Seng index futures market and Forex can moves very quickly and is therefore not suitable for all types of day traders.
3. Does the market give the kind of profit and loss? different types of market have different tick size and tick value. Pick the one that you see the worth. In a typical mini forex account, it is $1 per lot size. Whereas, the EUR future in US can be $12.50.
My other personal considerations are:1. Low initial and maintenance margin.2. whether you prefer smooth and steady price movement or volatile price actions.3. Low tick value per tick.4. Amount of leverage available to you. If you have smaller amount to start with to gain experience, it is better to start with a lower leverage such as 10:1.
If you are a European trader, then the market that I recommend is the EUR futures market, if you are a US trader then the markets that I recommend are either the EUR futures market or the mini Dow Jones futures market. As for Forex, it generally does not matter unless your sleeping hours always coincide with the favorable trading window period of that currency pair.
Lastly, regardless of which ever market you choose. Trading education, practice in demo account and discipline are the still the most important pillars of success that you can ever rely on.
